CUPPING THERAPY

What is Cupping Therapy ?

There are different types of cupping techniques and multiple cups ranging from silicone, plastic, and glass.  Many of our providers have been trained and certified in cupping therapy. Those providers combine their treatment with suction or fire cupping therapy or to provide a relaxing yet therapeutic treatment.  Traditional massage techniques are used with cupping techniques to loosen connective tissues and release painful trigger points (knots).  Cupping creates a vacuum effect on the skin which draws excess fluids and toxins, stimulates the nervous system and brings blood flow and circulation to tight and stagnant areas. It also helps with fascial restrictions, providing a stronger stretch that we may not be able to get with manual therapy.

The Round Marks

Cupping can leave marks on the skin’s surface. These marks are from the tiny capillaries at the skin’s surface – these sometimes break due to the pressure of the cups – they repair easily and the bodies response in repairing them also aides in healing the affected area. The marks look like bruises but are more like “hickeys”, they can vary from a light pink to deeper purple shades, it depends on the person and the condition being treated. We won’t know if or how dark these marks will get until we do the treatment. They can last 7-30 days, and they are not painful. Some soreness post treatment can be expected if the client is not properly hydrated after their cupping session.
