Cox Spinal Decompression
Bedford Cox Spinal Decompression Clinic
Cox Spinal Decompression technique is a specialized, research-proven treatment technique designed to relieve back pain associated with joint, nerve, and intervertebral disc problems. Using a specially engineered treatment table and specific hand contacts, the doctor is able to gently pull and stretch the spine, one spinal level at a time. This works to relieve pressure from painful discs and nerve compression, release tight joints and muscles, and restore proper balance and motion to the spine. Cox Spinal Decompression, combined with education on how to properly manage your injury and rehabilitative exercises, can not only help relief back pain symptoms, but can resolve it and prevent reoccurrences. Cox Spinal Decompression Can Help With…
- Low Back Pain
- Disc Herniation’s
- Spinal Stenosis
- Facet Syndrome
- Other Spine Conditions
How It Works
With the patient lying face down on the table, the lower section of the table (the part of the table supporting the patient’s legs) can be slowly pulled down and away. This motion lengthens the spine, which gently pulls the spinal bones away from each other and acts to “decompress” the spinal disc and stretch the painful and restricted joints.
As the spine stretches the doctor is able to focus the stretch/decompression at very specific levels of the lower back by stabilizing the vertebra above the restricted vertebrae using a specific hand contact. This focal pressure applied by the doctor makes Cox Technique more effective than traditional traction therapies or inversion devices which apply only a general traction, and do not provide feedback to doctor with respect to the health of the disc and spinal joints.
Each decompression stretch is applied in a rhythmical push-pull action five or six times for a total of about 20 seconds. This process is usually repeated three to four times, with sessions typically lasting less than 15 minutes. Most patients begin feeling relief with as few as 3-6 sessions. The treatment plan and recovery time vary based on the condition, severity, and age, though most patients completed their treatment by the 8th week.
