Physio-Pilates is a unique form of therapeutic exercise that focuses on posture, core stability, breathing, strength, and flexibility. It is often used to help rehabilitate the body after injury, particularly injuries of the pelvis, low back, or neck. Physio-Pilates is a treatment tool used by physiotherapists trained in Pilates, linking current spinal stability research and the traditional exercise rehabilitation and conditioning work of Joseph Pilates. It’s ideal for use in the rehabilitation setting, for general health and athletic performance, and as a preventive measure to avoid injury. More and more health care professionals are recommending Physio-Pilates as part of an individual’s rehabilitation. Physio-Pilates differs from a regular Pilates class as it is based on a person’s physiotherapy assessment and uses exercises that are adapted to make them more suitable for clients with low back and neck pain or those recovering from injury. At the initial consultation, your physiotherapist will conduct a full assessment including health history, lifestyle, posture, movement analysis, and personal goals. An individualized program will be designed and will include exercises that can be done at home in between treatment sessions. In Kelly’s sessions, Physio-Pilates exercises are done on a mat and incorporate small equipment like balls, foam rollers and resistance bands.
